Training simulation, not an operational policing or evidential system

Help centre

How StateMentor works, for learners, trainers and supervisors. If you can't find what you need, contact us.

Getting started

  • Individual accounts are free to create. Register with your email address and you can start practising straight away.
  • Organisation members usually join through an invitation link sent by their trainer. Accepting the invitation links your account to your force, university, college, cadet unit or training provider.
  • Forces, universities, colleges, cadet units and training providers can register an organisation from the sign-up page. The person who registers becomes its Supervisor and can invite trainers and learners immediately.

Running a scenario

  • Every scenario runs in three steps: read the briefing, investigate by reviewing evidence and questioning witnesses, then write your statement.
  • Witnesses are AI-played and answer in character. Some details only come out if you ask the right questions.
  • You can pause most exercises and resume later. Assessments may require a single sitting, and some scenarios limit how many questions you can ask.
  • Your pocket notebook on the Investigate and Write steps is never part of your statement or your marking.

Marking and feedback

  • Statements are marked against the rules for that statement type, chronology, direct speech, exhibits, identification and more. Every finding names the rule it relates to.
  • AI marking is a first draft. In organisations, trainers can review it before release, amend the score with a reason, or return the work for another attempt.
  • Bobby, the AI coach on the writing step, reads your draft on demand. Bobby never ticks your checklist, that stays your judgement.

For trainers and supervisors

  • Review lists submitted statements with their draft scores. Release, amend or return each one.
  • People handles invitations, roles and CSV imports. Deactivating a member frees their seat and keeps their history.
  • Content (supervisors) is where scenarios are drafted, by hand or generated from a brief, and nothing reaches learners until it is published.
  • Trainer and supervisor areas require a second sign-in check by email code.

Common questions

I can't sign in, what should I try first?
Check your email address is typed correctly, then use the "Forgotten your password?" link on the sign-in page to receive a sign-in link by email. If your account belongs to an organisation, your trainer can confirm your membership is still active.
Why is my score different from the AI draft?
Trainers can amend AI scores before releasing them, and every amendment records a reason. The score you see is the one your trainer released.
Can I use details from a real job in my practice statement?
No. StateMentor is a training simulation and must never contain real operational information, live case details or real personal data. Every scenario is fictional, see our acceptable use policy.
What do the rule codes in my feedback mean?
Each code identifies a marking rule and its category: structure (STR), chronology (CHR), person and opinion (PER), direct speech (SPE), description (DSC), identification (IDE), exhibits (EXH), language (LAN), prohibited content (PRO) and vulnerability (VUL). The feedback beside each code explains what to improve in plain English.
